What you can do with Capcade through your AI
Once your AI assistant is connected to Capcade over model context protocol (MCP), you can drive Capcade straight from your AI chat - no switching to the web app for routine work. This article covers what you can ask for and how file uploads work.

Actions your MCP can handle
Once connected, you can ask your AI to:
Manage tasks - list your task boards, find tasks, create new tasks, update existing ones, and attach files to them.
Search data rooms - find data rooms and locate the documents you need across your workspaces.
Read file contents - pull the contents of a file so the AI can summarize it, answer questions about it, or work with the information inside.
Upload files - add files from your computer into a data room (see how this works below).
You can phrase these as plain requests - for example, “List my Capcade task boards,” “Find the Q3 board deck in the investor data room,” or “Upload this report to the fundraising data room.”
Uploading files - how it works
Uploads need three things:
A file on your computer's disk. The AI's shell tool reads the file from your machine, not from chat attachments.
The destination - either a Capcade URL containing a project item ID (preferred), or the data room you want to upload to.
Optionally, the folder within that data room.
Easiest approach: copy a Capcade URL from your browser (for example https://app.capcade.run/#/s/projects/all/<workspace>/projectItem/<id>?folderId=<folder>) and paste it into the conversation. Your AI will extract the IDs automatically.
If you drag a file into the chat window instead of having it saved on disk, the AI may not be able to upload it. Save the file to your computer first (for example, to your Downloads folder), then ask the AI to upload it from that path.
If your AI doesn't have a shell tool
Some AI clients - such as the Claude Mac app in Chat mode - can't run shell commands. In that case the AI will respond with something like: “I can't upload from here. Please open the data room in your browser and drag the file in.”
This is expected. Open the link the AI gives you and upload through the Capcade web interface instead.
